Weekly Photo Challenge: Street LIfe

Street Life 1

So I was pulling into Bakersfield, Ca., stopping off to get some lunch when I had the chance to look up what this week’s Photo Challenge theme was. The sense of irony was dripping when I saw the words, “Street Life.” The reason having to do with the fact that, lately, I’ve tried to do what I can to take the photo challenge literally (i.e. look at the theme, think a bit about it, and shoot what comes to mind). I know the rule is that the post must be new, with new content (photography) heavily implied but not specifically stated or necessarily rigidly adhered too. I (like many) have pulled archival images out of the vault on multiple occasions, but lately I’ve decided to raise the bar and try the notion of new content to its logical extreme (i.e. read it, think it, shoot it, post).

The aforementioned irony only becomes clear when I mention the reason why I’d driven several hundred miles to have lunch in Bakersfield. Bakersfield was just one stop among several in my attempt to flee street life, as I would define it, in favor of the calm, empty vastness of the desert, where streets are a formality and dirt roads are accepted as the norm. Given my schedule, there was no way I was going to adequately cover the theme along the way, or at least not without great risk to what sanity I have left.

So, it’s into the archives I dig, to present street life images of a place I’ve been dying to get away from, posting from a place with very little streets at all. Enjoy!
