Being a parent, more than anything else, is a constant reminder of just how paradoxical the world is. From the moment your child is born, you will receive multiple daily reminders of the Sisyphus-esque task of trying to establish order and reason in your life. Your will will be ground down languidly by the constant cleaning up of spills, mind-numbing simplicities, and banal arguments devoid of logic. And yet, you preserver. How? Why? You have no choice but to be optimistic.

“Math sucks.”
“No it doesn’t.”
“Yes it does.”
“Ok, sometimes it does, but you just need to take your time and go step by step.”
“I do do that and I still don’t get it!”
“You will. You just need to be patient.”
“Yeah right.”
“Hey, what’s 2+2?”
“4.”
“See how quick you got that? Don’t you remember when you used to have to use your fingers to figure that out and it took forever?”
“… yeah …”
“That’s what I mean. Just keep it up and don’t rush.”
“But I’ve got a project I want to do and this is taking too long!”
“Dude, the more you rush, the more mistakes you’ll make, the more time it’ll take to have to go back fix them.”
“Arrrgh!!!”
“Come on man.”
“… ok …”
